Campus Staff Spotlight | Kristen Otero

“A Goal without a Plan is just a Wish.”

We at Campus on Lake Austin are so very lucky to have a superstar Conference Planner to turn our guests’ wishes into reality to reach their event goals. Kristen Otero is the primary contact for all events at the Campus once they have completed the Sales process. Whether it is a wedding, gala, or multi-day Conference, Kristen is the dynamo that will be handling your needs in the planning process to ensure that our staff and facility is at its best in executing your event.

This world-traveler is the conduit between the Sales Team and Operations Staff as she guides you through planning your menu, setup, and details.

Let’s get to know a little more about this Native Austinite.

What is your name and title? Kristen Otero, Conference Planner

Where were you born? Austin, Texas

Please briefly detail your professional experience. I have over 12 years of experience in events, catering, management, sales, and customer service. I have worn several hats in my career and have worked both sides of the event industry.  On the client side, I led production of large-scale events ranging upwards to 16,000 people for companies such as Capital Factory and Hopdoddy. On the hospitality side, I was a Catering and Conference Services Manager at hotels such as AT&T Conference Center and Hotel Granduca.

Where is your favorite travel destination and memory? My husband and I had the incredible opportunity to travel the world for 16 months. We fell in love with so many destinations, but Barcelona ranked #1 in our books with a vibrant culture, amazingly delicious food, and perfect mix of city and beach life. My favorite travel memory, though, was when my husband and I were the best man and woman in a deaf couple’s wedding in rural Kenya. That was quite the experience!

Where have you not yet been able to visit, but have always wanted to? Thailand and Tahiti!

What is your favorite thing about Austin? Being born and raised in Austin (a Unicorn as some would say), I have been blessed to experience so much of what this amazing city has to offer. But ultimately, my favorite part of Austin is the outdoor life, laid back vibe, and endless activities and events.

What does having a position at Campus on Lake Austin mean to you? My mother was a teacher her entire career and I also fostered two boys with special needs, so education holds a special place in my heart. I am honored to be part of an organization that has such a high impact on Texas public education leaders and their students. I am excited to be doing what I love as a Conference Planner while supporting the mission of The Holdsworth Center.
